Did you solve it? Chapeau! A smart new hat puzzle
Earlier today I set you this logic puzzle. Here is is again with the solution.
TL;DR
- Ade, Binky, and Carl are perfect logicians, each with a hat showing a positive integer.
- One number is the sum of the other two; wearers cannot see their own hat number.
- Ade sees Binky has 3 and Carl has 1, deducing his hat could be 2 (difference) or 4 (sum).
- Ade states he doesn't know his hat number, revealing Binky and Carl's numbers are not identical.
- Binky states he doesn't know his hat number, revealing Ade's and Carl's numbers are not identical.
- This allows Ade to deduce his hat number is not 2, therefore it must be 4.
