Local Elections and the Spirit of Liberty
We pay less attention than we should to local elections. Democracy, however, thrives at the local level.
TL;DR
- Local elections are crucial for the health of democracy.
- Municipalities manage property taxes and essential services such as water, sewage, garbage, and recycling.
- Local governments are responsible for parks, recreation facilities, and public safety services like police and firefighters.
- Despite their importance, local elections receive less attention than federal or provincial ones.
