Ford recalls some 119,000 vehicles due to engine block heater fire risk, NHTSA says

Ford is recalling about 119,000 vehicles due to defective engine block heaters.

Affected models include certain 2016-2018 Focus, 2019 and 2024 Explorer, 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles with 2.0L engines.
The engine block heaters may crack, leading to coolant leaks and short circuits when plugged in.
Owners should not plug in the block heaters until repaired.
Dealers will replace the block heaters free of charge.
Notification letters are expected to be mailed starting February 13, with final repair information in April.
