Did you solve it? Are you a match for the dinkiest mag in maths?
Earlier today I posed four puzzles from the Hyde Park Math Zine, a maths fanzine from Austin, Texas. Here they are again with solutions.
TL;DR
- Puzzle 1: 'Ring it' involves calculating the perimeter of a figure based on enclosed region perimeters.
- Puzzle 2: 'Eight ball' requires placing digits 1-8 in circles so no adjacent digits are linked.
- Puzzle 3: 'Round the block' uses algebraic equations derived from horizontal and vertical sums to find a total.
- Puzzle 4: 'Tennis teaser' calculates the probability of Steffi winning a game from deuce, given her and Boris's point probabilities.
